Experience amazing art during you stay in Cologne
Seo Soo Kyoung was born in 1977 in Gwangju, Korea. She is known by the artist name SEO, which comes from her family name. She lives in Berlin since 2001 and she is one of the most important artists of the world.
SEO attended Gwangju Art high School in Korea. After graduation, she studied at Chosun University in Gwangju, where she received the award for the best student of the year. After graduation in 2001, SEO moved to Berlin to take up her studies at the Universität der Künste (University of the Arts), as a member of the class of one of the most significant contemporary artists of Germany, George Baselitz, to whom our art’otel berlin mitte is dedicated.
Since 2003, SEO has been working with hand-made Korean hanji rice paper, a material associated with everyday life in Korea. SEO tears the paper into strips and fixes it into canvases. She then applies acrylic paint on the paper stripes. Every picture contains at least 10 000 stripes of paper and over 791 colours.
